Growing Pains

Through all the years of being a Mom I have realized that some things must stay the same and some will inevitably change like your children getting older. Lately I have been thinking a lot about this especially since I have a new little one and see how much he grows and changes each day. I long for the days when my kids were little and I was their best friend and they were glued to my side but I also am excited to see what they will do with their futures as they grow and become adults. Here are some things that have been happening with each of my kids that have made this realization even more apparent these days.

Just a few months ago I got a call from a girl. The conversation went a little something like this.
Girl: Are you Victor's Mom?
Me: Yes
Girl: Is your rule that he has to be 16 to go on a date?
Me:It is.
Girl: Oh Okay, I just wanted to ask him to the girls choice Preference Dance.
Me: That is so sweet! I'm sure he would love to go with you but that is our family rule. You should ask him out next year. That would be so much fun and I would love to meet you.
Girl: Okay, I will.
As I got off the phone all I could see in my mind were pictures of my little Victor through the years. I can't believe that he will be 16 in two months and graduated in two years.

Olivia just had her Eight Grade Graduation Dance. She even asked me to help her put on makeup which is so not normal for my plane Jane girl. When she got home she showed us pictures her friends took of her dancing with different boys. We were a little shocked. She is such a tom boy (far from what I am) so this was like Christmas for me. I was SO excited. She will be going to High School next year. Tear...

This first picture is of Emilio in his "banana jammies" with his lawn mower. He used to follow right behind Carlos when he was mowing the lawn. And when Carlos was at work he would still go out there and pretend to mow the whole lawn. This other picture is of him in front of his school. He will be heading to Middle School this year and I am struggling with it maybe because he is technically my oldest or first one that I had. I know it sounds cliche but It really seems like yesterday when I had him.

Oh Leesy the little Diva. We battled so much this year over what she wore and how she did her hair. I remember the days when I could pick out any outfit and she would wear it. And I could do the cutest things with her hair. Not anymore. She is so independent and thinks she is 16.I have had to try so hard to give her independence within limits. Its also hard because she is my little clone. She loves fashion, shopping and girly things just like me. She is getting so tall. And she was the baby of our family for so many years. I sure love my sweet sidekick.

My adorable baby boy has brought so much joy to our home. I swear we just brought him home from the hospital and this time last year he was kicking away in my stomach and I was roasting in the hot sun. He grows so much each day and is doing new things all the time. The first year goes by so fast. We love him so much!
