Be prepared, this may sound a little "preachy." Today was our ward conference and we had the Stake Leaders there. The Stake President (President Brough) talked about how it is becoming so unpopular to be a Christian and how the world is viewing us as Christian's in such a negative light. I have been thinking a lot about this today. It has made me realize how important it is to be even stronger in my Christian beliefs than before. I started asking myself if I or we as a family are doing enough. Of course the answer was no. We as a family are trying to read our scriptures daily, working on family prayers and trying to accomplish Family Home Evening each week.
I realize as my kids leave the house each day that they are facing challenges that I could never imagine. I see it everywhere more apparent than before. The sanctity of the family is being destroyed, God is being taken out of everything. Satan's ways are becoming more acceptable and opportunities for my children to feel the spirit daily aren't as often as they should be. It makes me want to make my home a refuge and fortify it with all that is missing in their lives. I realize that it is getting closer to the days that the spiritual knowledge that they will need will mostly need to come from home.
Its a big challenge, Some days I don't feel equipped to do the job. The burden is heavy as parents but today it ignited a fire in me that makes me want to say, "I'm proud to be a follower of Christ!" I know it won't be easy in the years to come as the world continues to spiral out of control but I am grateful for what I know and to share what I know with my children. I can only hope and pray that Carlos and I will raise them with that same pride and conviction.I hope all of us can be examples to others around and be proud to be one the believers, the Christians, the true followers of Christ.
1 Timothy 4:12 "Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity , in spirit in faith, in purity." (Young Men and Young Women's theme for the year)

Thanks!! The world is a scary place and family is so important!! That is a great post! I needed that!!
Good thoughts Kari. I was just talking to my sister yesterday about how negative some members of an "older generation" can be about youth today. We always hear "Kids today...don't know how to work, are lazy, are disrespectful, don't know how easy they have it, etc..." It ticks me off because there are so many GOOD kids out there who are doing their very best in the face of a SCARY and DIRTY world! And they deserve some credit! Sometimes I just want to turn around and answer back, "90% of the horrible things these kids are exposed to EVERY SINGLE DAY, you haven't even HEARD of!! You have no idea what it's like to be them. Yes, it may be true that they don't know how easy they have it (in some ways)...but it's also true that YOU don't know how EASY you had it!!" Ticks me off....
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now!
I am sooo glad there are good parents out there like you! If only there were more like you! We live in a scary time! Kids are faced with so much! I totally agree with you in making your home a sancuary from the world! You are amazing!
Such a good post Kari! Thanks for your thoughts...I agree that as families we need to buckle down and be better. At least I know that my family can be! And I agree with your friend Angie... I've actually never thought of that before, but what a great point!!!
P.S. Thanks for your comment on my McD's story.. it made me laugh and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has had those times! Haha.
